The 80/20 Rule
I’d be flat out lying to you if I told you I never eat sweets. So you may be wondering how the heck do you stay on top of your nutrition goals if you have a sweet tooth like me?
You don't have to eat 100% “healthy” foods all the time to reap the health benefits these foods have to offer. If your diet is made up of nutrient-dense foods at least 80% of the time then you will still see big improvements in how you feel, look, and how your body functions.
This means the other 20% allows you wiggle room so you can still enjoy those less “healthy” foods (like cookies!) No one ever got fat by eating just one cookie. So, allow yourself a treat every day! Denying your cravings can be emotionally and mentally draining and can lead to unhealthy relationships with food.
But remember this is a TREAT, not a MEAL. Don’t justify to yourself that eating the whole box of cookies counts as 20%.
